Originally hailing from Montgomery, Alabama, singer-songwriter and producer Kenny Sharp had plans straying far from a career in music when he first attended college on a football scholarship.
However, his high school passions for hip hop and rap inevitably took over, and inspired him to develop his craft by working with fellow creatives like Benny Mayne and LunchMoney Lewis, influencing him to pursue the life of a musician.
When he’s not writing songs that land on popular TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy, or opening for acts like Wale and The Chuck Brown Band, Sharp is steadily releasing music and experimenting across multiple genres, including pop, soul, hip hop, and Americana. While his last single “Good Time Girls” delivered a more swingin’ country rock side to his artistic ability, his latest single, “Stomp & Holler,” showcases a more indie-pop meets Americana vibe. The high energy boot stompin’ track also features Mikki Brayboy.
The track adds a fresh sing-a-long pop energy to Sharp’s soulful repertoire of tunes, whilst also allowing him to experiment with a folkier twist on his usual style. This release proves — along with much of Sharp’s previous discography — that although an artist might find their roots in one style, the adaptability and ability to bounce between different genres is what truly allows one’s artistry to shine through.
Those intrigued by Sharp’s unique versatility in his music can catch him live at venues in Nashville like The Lipstick Lounge, as well as New York hotspots like The Green Room 42 and the Sultan Room in July. Regardless of where he’s performing or what genre he’s deciding to dip into, fans can always expect something fresh, fun, and original.
